Since 1973 Véhicule Press has published quality writing by Canadian authors, with a commitment to first-time authors—a third of our list. The press publishes poetry, fiction, translations, social history, and the occasional restaurant guide. Carmine Starnino is the editor of the Signal Editions poetry imprint. The fiction series Esplanade Books is edited by Andrew Steinmetz.
Véhicule Press authors have won the Governor General’s Award for Translation (three times), the Governor General’s Award for Poetry (twice) and several GG nominations. Other prizes include the Canada-Japan Prize, several regional awards and nominations, Jewish Book awards, the Gerald Lampert Award for Poetry, Columbia University’s Félix Antoine-Savard Prize for Translation, and the Stephen Leacock Prize for Humour.
