    For manuscript submission queries:

Guernica will only accept manuscript queries by email. We no longer accept queries by snail mail. Before sending in your query, please check our website to determine the type of material that best fits our publishing house. Please note we only accept manuscript submissions between January 1 and April 30.

Aside from the original Guernica Editions queries (pertaining to literary and cultural material), we have expanded the publishing house to include the MiroLand imprint. Under MiroLand, we accept queries in the areas of memoir, how-to, self-help, graphic novels, art books, cookbooks and children’s literature, as well as genre literature.

We also house the Guernica World Editions imprint, which accepts queries year-round. Under Guernica World, we accept manuscripts from outside of Canada.

When querying to the MiroLand or Guernica World Editions imprints, please indicate as much.

    No borders, no limits.

On Monday, April 26th, 1937, the bells of Santa Maria tolled, warning of the inhumane aerial raid that would reduce the Spanish city of Guernica into ruins. Fiery nationalist bombs rained down on men, women, children and animals. Picasso immortalized the victims of this terrible moment in history with his painting Guernica. That image has become a plea for peace. We named our press Guernica with the hope that the books we publish will make this world a better place in which to live and love.

Established in 1978, Guernica Editions has published over five hundred titles from around the world that reflect its commitment to a social agenda with a special understanding of different cultures. Under new management since 2010, it has added two new imprints to its traditional series of prose, poetry, drama, and essays. The MiroLand imprint publishes other literary genres and the Guernica World Editions imprint publishes books from authors outside of Canada. After four decades, Guernica has maintained its long-held tradition of publishing translations of Quebec and international authors and creating ties between cultural groups.

Guernica is grateful for the financial support of the Canada Council of the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Media Development Corporation, the Canada Book Fund, the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada.
